Holograph diary of a tour to and through Italy, commencing at Dover in August 1816 and ending in Stamford on December 23 in the same year. Gwilt carefully recorded expenses, weather, meals, and sights seen, with a strong emphasis on Italian architectural monuments, which he illustrated with numerous pen and ink drawings of plans, elevations, and details, and discussed with attention to the quality of any restoration work. There are also occasional comments on and sketches of vehicles, costumes, and views.
